The Morning Halo (Photo)

February 3rd, 2007

Woke up this morning and its about -18 out.. CHILLY.. well I let my dog out to do his business when I look up (which I do often now) and spot a partial halo around the sun.. well I jumped inside and snapped a few shots and this is the one that I kept. The halo was fading fast so I had limited amount of shots and had to go with one with powerlines...not my #1 choice.. but its still a decent capture!

Amazing Sunset (Photo)

February 1st, 2007

Well on the way home today I had another halo present itself.. and of course on the one day I choose to not bring my camera!! (DAMN) Well either way I get home a bit upset that I missed the photo opportunity and to my amazment viola.. an amazing sunset decides to poke out. So I quickly jumped into my truck and raced to the nearest clear line of sight where I could snap a nice photo. End result is the above photo that I think turned out ok for no tripod (left that at home accidentally when I was rushing)

The Infamous Circumzenithal Arc! (Photo)

January 29th, 2007

Well folks... fist off... welcome to my inagural post on my new blog site and I hope you come back and check it out as I will update often! Well today after taking a few shots I lucked out and looked high in the sky to notice what at first I simply called "an upside down rainbow!" How simple and uneducated a description it was until I found out the technical term from my friend Travis (http://tfavretto.deviantart.com/gallery/) that it is indeed a Circumzenithal Arc. He then notified me that this in fact was a very rare sighting and he himself has never seen one (yes he's jealous!) Well either way I figured I should post a picture of it for all to enjoy!

Motion Falls! (Photo)

October 25th, 2006

This is my first real attempt at time lapsed photography, and its not bad but could be better. I took this photo up and old VERY rough camp road north of Desbarats Lake Ontario to where there are a pretty impressive set of waterfalls that have great photo capabilities. The terain is a bit rough, but wear some boots and enjoy the scenery and you will not be dissapointed. If you travel further up the trail you can actually hike about 2 hours into whats locally known as "Desbarats Caves" this is a cave system that is home to a Brown Bat sactuary and is very impressive. If you want more info on it you can go here: (http://johanna.wandel.ca/batcave/index.html) to Joanna Wandel's website she made the trek there and has some great photo's !!

Global Warming! (Photo)

January 4th, 2006

Well this picture was taken behind Bruce Mines Ontario off of Center Line Rd. This being early January it was shocking as hell that we have no snow in Northern Ontario!! Well believe it or not this is what it looked like that day. While taking shots at an old abandoned house my friend Travis and I stumbled upon some cool finds in the long grass. I immediately I took to this snowmachine from I have no idea what year (probably 60's or 70's) and snapped a few shots. With the bland colours at this time of the year I figured black and white would suit this picture and I must say, I am glad I went with that choice as it is one of my favorite shots!

Rural Pink! (Photo)

September 7th, 2005

One of the most amazing sunsets I have ever seen... right out my parents back door! It was late afternoon and just starting to get dark, I remember vividly that I was sitting in our den working on photos when all of a sudden an erie pink glow came streaming in the windows. It was odd because not 5 mins earlier it was getting rather dark out. Well I grabbed my camera and jumped out the back door to see this view, and let me tell you it was amazing the deep orange colour and how far it stretched in the sky! All I can say is thank god my camera was close!

Hiawatha..... again!! (Photo)

October 2nd, 2005

This is another shot of the lake at Hiawatha as the sun has started going down... this is on the far side of the lake and it was amazing how well the cloud reflections looked on the water. When I saw this I HAD to take the shot... who can pass up a view like that. You have to click on this and view the full picture to appreciate the shot!

Hiawatha! (Photo)

October 2nd, 2005

This is a shot I took one evening at Hiawatha Park in Sault Ste Marie. This shot was taken at about 7pm or so and it was the summer time. I really enjoyed how the clouds looked with the reflecting sun and with the silouhette (spelling courtesy of Michelle.. Thank You!!!) of the trees as the sun went down! Overall not a bad shot for my old point and shoot camera!

Hungry Bee! (Photo)

September 17, 2005

This shot is not an astro photography type shot but it is one of my favorite none the less.. and seeing how this IS "my" blog site.. I may post what i want :P Well either way this shot was taken with my old camera Nikon Coolpix 880. It was shot early in the morning against our old shed in the back yard as you can plainly see the greyed up hemlock wood of the 60+ yr old shed. I managed to get VERY close with this small point and shoot camera and get this good apature based shot (without getting stung!!) Overall I love the way the shot is composed and I hope you enjoy it as well!!

Sundog Fever! (Photo)

January 26th, 2007

Well only a few days ago I happened to again be looking out my window (yes I do that often) and spotted a cool sundog happening. This sundog was low on the horizon so it did lack alot of the common red, blue and green effects.. but it did look almost like a second sun setting. I snapped this picture and the sun is setting behind the tree and to the right you can see the sundog overtop of the horizon and very bright. It was a cool picture and did last for about 5 minutes before disappearing!

Lunar Corona! (Photo)

January 3rd, 2007

This shot is from a few weeks back when I returned to Northern Ontario (Desbarats) just about 30 minutes East of Sault Ste. Marie. I returned home to notice that moon had some pretty cool rings around it and realized that this was indeed a cool phenomenon. So again I picked up my nifty Nikon D50 camera and ventured out to snap a few shots! These are the shots that I finnished off with.. I hope you enjoy!
